In Erin’s words,
“I am writing to express my gratitude for your generous support to help me to achieve in my studies of a Bachelor of Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Within my program, I have had the opportunity to explore a range of interest areas within the field of science and have chosen a major in mathematics and a minor in chemistry. These are both fields that I have had a passion for throughout my secondary and tertiary studies.
The financial support provided by Rowe Scientific with the Rowe Scientific Chemistry Scholarship will greatly assist me in my present and future studies. This support will provide me with the freedom to prioritise my academic achievement and will allow me to develop practical skills in the form of work experience and placement opportunities to complement what I will be learning in classes.
Currently, I have not narrowed down my studies to a specific area, however I believe that the final year of my Bachelor of Science will provide me with greater insight into various pathways that I may choose to pursue. My academic goals involve completing my Bachelor of Science program and continuing with study in my chosen fields.
This will likely involve applying for Honours in 2020, and potentially beginning postgraduate research. I am excited for the opportunity to spend the time I need to succeed in my studies, and I look forward to continuing this in the future. Regardless of where the future takes me, my aspiration is to inspire others and make a significant, positive contribution to society.

“My interest in Metallurgical Engineering began through my passion for chemistry and understanding chemical processes from a practical perspective.
I believe a career in Metallurgy would be very rewarding as the industry has a real and positive impact on society by transforming raw materials into precious metals that are essential in everyday life.
As a student, I am very interested in learning more about the chemical processes which allow these metals to be extracted and purified, while working towards my long-term career goal of becoming a Senior Metallurgist.
The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship will assist me immensely in achieving my future career goals by allowing me to focus on my studies and further explore my interest in the industry with minimal financial stresses.

In Wendy’s words,
“I am in my final year of studying a Bachelor of Science degree and have found my studies in Food Science to be very interesting.
I have enjoyed learning about the chemical reactions different components of food undergo during cooking, storage and processing and how these reactions may impact the taste, texture, nutritional quality and shelf life of foods.
The potential benefits of functional foods and nutraceuticals in promoting health and preventing and treating disease is an exciting area which requires more research to gain further understanding of these compounds.
I consider working in the field of Food Science important as everyone needs a safe, nutritious, affordable and accessible food supply and I am extremely grateful to be awarded this prize. It will be a huge financial help for me as I work towards completing my degree this year.”

In Travis’s words,
“The aspects of my chemistry related work that interested me most was the use of chemical compounds in the treatment of many conditions.
Along with that my interests regarding chemistry also reside in the chemical basis of how homeopathic treatments due to many homeopathic treatments being quite effective in the treatment of many conditions while producing very few if any side-effects.
With regards to homeopathic treatments if they do have side-effects, it is likely those side-effects are far less severe than those of normal pharmaceutical treatments which is likely due to the biocompatibility of those homeopathic treatments.
As well as the chemical basis of how homeopathic treatments work I'm interested in research regarding the efficacy of homeopathic treatments seeing as there are many people, like myself, who react adversely to many pharmaceutical treatments even basic painkillers such as Panamax would yield adverse for some people such as myself while yielding minute pain reduction."

Dear Clients,
Rowe Scientific is continuing to build its product portfolio and drive engagement with scientists in the healthcare and research sectors of the scientific market.
Later this month Rowe Scientific will participate for the first time in the National Histology Conference which will be staged in Adelaide from May 24 to 26 inclusive.
Our participation signals a renewed focus on developing a presence in the pathology market and in particular in Anatomical Pathology (AP). Our AP product range continues to grow and now includes all the basic consumables required in a histology environment including microscope slides and coverslips, solvents, dyes and stains, embedding cassettes plus slide and paraffin block storage solutions.
We look forward to meeting many of our existing clients from NSW and to develop new partnerships with scientists in the histology community throughout Australia as a result of our participation in the conference.
Finally, for the research community, keep an eye out for our new tissue culture plastic ware range which will launch next month following arrival of stock from our initial order due before the end of the month. It is exciting times in Rowe Scientific as we forge ahead and seek to support our scientists in advancing Australia in science.

Autumn is quickly fading into the cooler months of the year, as “Winter is Coming”. A nod to Game of Thrones fans out there.
Mark Ames is settling in well to his role, as is Katelynn, who I’m sure many of you have already conversed with her. As this goes out I will be on a 4 week break for the birth of our second child, I will be back at work on the 11th of June. Paula will be overseeing my work during this period.
We have upcoming trade shows that we will be exhibiting in Adelaide this year. The first of which will be in Adelaide for the “Histology Conference” from the 24th to the 26th of May. We are again attending the “Inter Winery Analysis Group” meeting on the 14th of June. We will also be at the “WineTech” event from the 21st of July to the 24th.
