We were so close to our target for the 2017 - 18 financial year!

Thank you for helping us achieve a fantastic result by raising a total of $31,414 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Whilst short of our target of $32,000, it was a good result for this important institution. 

Thank you for your continued purchases of our Quantum Clean laboratory detergents and special range of pH Buffers. Each sale results in a $2.00 donation to this great Australian cause.

This year we have reset the target to $32,000 for the 2018-19 financial year.





Thank you to all who came and visited our exhibition at The University of South Australia. We showcased various consumables and instruments such as water quality instruments, filtration kits and pH electrodes to name a few. These were of high interest to all who visited our stand.

My ultimate goal in life is to make a positive impact on our world, and I strongly believe that chemistry can lead me on the path to achieving this.

In Abigail’s words,

"My name is Abigail Amoah and I am in my first year studying Extractive Metallurgy at Curtin University.

First, thank you Rowe Scientific for granting me with the Rowe Scientific Metallurgy scholarship. I know that this scholarship will greatly aid me in continuing my studies in my course and motivate me to continue to study effectively.

Your support is greatly appreciated. I have always loved chemistry since I was young, so there was no doubt that in future that I wanted to study a university course based on chemistry.

As I approached the end of high school, my father, who is an engineer, recommended that I do the Extractive Metallurgy course. After researching about Metallurgy as a career, I began to become more and more passionate about pursuing this career.

Now that I have started my first year of this course, I am so glad I have chosen this pathway! The use of chemistry principles to extract and refine metals that will then be used in a variety of ways makes the future career in Metallurgy fresh and exciting. In addition, while at Curtin, I have learnt about the stages of mining and am looking forward to working with the mining industry, gaining more experience in the workforce and leadership skills. Thank you again Rowe Scientific for your generous support!

Mr Jason D'Monte


My name is Jason D’Monte and I am a current student at Curtin University studying Metallurgy Engineering. Towards the end of 2018 I will be finalising my fourth year at Curtin’s Western Australia School of Mines (WASM) in Kalgoorlie.

Extractive Metallurgy incorporates removing valuable metals from an ore and refining these extractive raw metals into a purer form through the application of scientific principles.

There is a variety of methods that are used to purify these raw metals which personally I find most interesting. The processing side of mining is complex and incorporates metallurgy from all aspects from hydrometallurgy to pyrometallurgy.

Throughout my degree at Curtin I have enjoyed the challenges and the integration of disciplines in which metallurgy provides. I would like to acknowledge Rowe Scientific for awarding me with the prestige 2018 Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship.

The Rowe Scientific Metallurgy Scholarship will assist me financially but also gives me a great sense of achievement as I strive in achieving my long-term goal of becoming a Senior Metallurgist. I am looking forward to applying my theoretical knowledge and scientific principles into practise with vacation work and then future employment within the mining industry.

Ms Dannielle MacKenzie

In Dannielle's words,

"As a high school student I was, like many, completely overwhelmed by the decision of choosing a career path. For me, I had always loved maths and science based classes and knew that if I was going to do anything in life it was going to be in the STEM field.

Metallurgy, at first, was a huge unknown as the processing industry was not something I was familiar with. I liked the idea of being involved in a process that turns a natural resource into something useful and with that decided that the double degree of Extractive Metallurgy and Chemical Engineering was the one for me.

Now, as a final year student, I have been fortunate enough to see and experience first-hand the importance of the metallurgist’s role in the industry. Being able to apply all of these theories to a working operation is what excites me the most. Being able to physically see and hold the outcome of your changes for a higher quality product makes me love the role.
I love that the field is constantly changing and adapting to new technologies, more sustainable approaches and ultimately, better recoveries. All the answers are not known and the developments and innovative solutions that are still being thought of and implemented today is what excites me for the future. I am very passionate about developing the relationships between those in industry and current students.

We, as students, can learn so much from experienced knowledge and the opportunity that Rowe Scientific has provided by assisting students through the scholarship means that the gap between industry and education is closing and from it we are getting better, industry-ready graduates.
I hope that by receiving this generous scholarship and promoting minerals processing it will encourage more young people to realise the vast opportunities that are available in this amazing field and bring forward more collaborations between students and industry.

Chemistry bursary fuels cancer treatment dreams


Below is an article written on behalf of Mr James Humphries from the University of Queensland,

"University of Queensland Science (Honours) student James Humphries is set to continue his research into the development of the next generation of nano-medicines to diagnose and treat multi-drug-resistant cancers, thanks to the generosity of a donor to UQ.

James is the winner of the UQ Rowe Scientific Chemistry Honours Bursary, made possible by a $2000 donation from Rowe Scientific Pty Ltd., an Australian owned scientific supplier of laboratory consumables and instrumentation.

“This award is allowing me to pursue my studies and embark on a career in scientific research,” he said.

Growing up in Bundaberg, James’s interest in chemistry and a desire to discover new information was fostered by some “particularly remarkable teachers.” “I am aware that the decision to pursue postgraduate research is a choice seldom made by people with my background, due to the financial pressures of living away from home and on a minimal income,“ he said.

Although James is only a few months into his Honours project to quantify the behaviour of a family of polymers and develop new diagnosis and treatment vehicles, he could already tell that a career in research was for him.

“Being exposed to inter-disciplinary research at UQ, I have developed an appreciation of how people from a diverse range of backgrounds and fields of expertise can come together and accomplish a common goal,” he said.

He is undertaking his honours year within the Thurecht group at the Centre for Advanced Imaging and AIBN (within the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent BioNano Science and Technology).

This is one of a number of awards being supported through philanthropy by University of Queensland supplier Rowe Scientific and benefiting students at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences.

Mr Reg Rowe said the directors and staff of Rowe Scientific believed that the future economy of Australia would benefit from Rowe Scientific directly supporting the education of Australia’s future scientists. “These scientists will be required in the areas of quality control on Australia’s exports, research and value adding to exports, as well as for the education of overseas students, to name a few areas,” Mr Rowe said."

In Shaneah’s words,

“I am currently studying Science at Monash University, Clayton, Majoring in Chemistry and Physiology.

I had completed Chemistry in my final year of high school but never really embraced the subject with enthusiasm until university.

Hands on practicals, dealing with real, relevant to life chemistry was what sparked my interest. I feel honoured and grateful to be chosen for this scholarship.
I used my 18th birthday money to purchase a computer for my final year of high school. Recently however, my work is often lost and I am having to retype.

A new computer was something that I was saving for and will be the first thing I look to buy along with textbooks for my studies in chemistry next semester.”

Mr Roberto Speziale

Roberto Speziale is a 3rd year chemistry major student studying a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Monash University.

He hopes to continue on in a chemistry career pathway either in research or in secondary chemistry teaching.

He is originally from the small town of Wangaratta and moved to Melbourne in 2016 for University.

As he lives out of home, this scholarship will be able to help him with his living costs as well as providing him with the opportunity to study overseas

2017/18 finished with strong growth for Rowe Scientific NSW. As we move forward, we have planned the introduction of three additional members to join our team.

In addition to introducing new staff we are actively working to incorporate new products to our existing range. The end of the financial year has arrived and the Queensland staff would like to thank all of our clients for your support throughout 2017/2018 and we look forward to continued growth in the year ahead.

Rowe Scientific staff recently attended ACHEMA in Germany, looking for the latest innovations in scientific instrumentation and consumables that will help make your work in the lab easier.
A particularly innovative product which stood out at the show was the Velp Oxitest Stability Reactor, which is used for performing accelerated oxidative stability testing in the lab. This instrument will be of specific interest to anyone needing to check the shelf life of products and covers the food and feed, pharmaceutical industries, biodiesel and any product which will deteriorate over time.

In addition the Velp Oxitest Stability Reactor is the only instrument of its' kind which has AOCS Cd-12c-16 Test Method recognition.

We also welcome Jacob Carr to our Queensland team as our Warehouse Supervisor. Jacob comes to us with many years of experience in warehousing and we expect that his contribution will assist with improving order despatches.

Greeting from the Perth office and thanks for keeping us busy.

We have recently employed two new staff members to work in our warehouse area. We recognise that you order from us because you need the goods, so we are constantly looking to improve our service delivery to you.

John Dwyer and Phil Sherwood have recently returned from ACHEMA where we personally renewed relationships with existing suppliers as well as keeping an eye out for the latest innovations.
I can think of three new suppliers with excellent products we have introduced in the past 12 months. Nabertherm, based in Germany manufacture furnaces for all industries from laboratory to production with muffle, annealing and tube models. Our first unit sat on the shelf for 36 hours before being sold!

We have started with a range of peristaltic pumps from LeadFluid, and again have only had positive feedback. These offer substantial costs savings over current suppliers in the Australian market.

Ningbo Sunny Instruments manufacture microscopes. With a very broad range we have started offering models suitable for the education sector. Quality is excellent and price is attractive. Please call us, we look forward to assisting you to improve your science.
