In November 2024, NMR acquired the Charters Towers Gold Project, including the Blackjack Gold Processing Plant and the Far Fanning, Granite Castle, and Great Britain deposits - marking a major step in the company’s evolution. Within nine months, NMR refurbished and recommissioned the Blackjack plant, achieving its first gold pour in July 2025, ahead of schedule and on budget. The plant has since produced over 1,000 ounces of gold doré, delivering first revenue and establishing NMR as one of only three operating gold plants in the region.

In addition to its gold operations, NMR continues to advance exploration across its broader portfolio, targeting high potential opportunities and strategic resource growth.

The company collaborates closely with its partners to drive technical excellence and the responsible progression of its projects, maintaining a strong commitment to transparency, integrity, and ethical business practices in achieving its milestones.

In El's own words:
"Ever since I was a child, I have had a hunger for knowledge, and a desire to learn as much as I could about any conceivable topic.

Chemistry captivated my imagination due to the incredible possibilities it provides. From biochemistry, to synthetic chemistry, and my beloved electrochemistry, chemistry has opened my world to infinite potential for learning.

It thrills me to know that as long as I can dream, there will always be so much to discover".

VICTORIA UNIVERSITY ROWE SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP 2025

Congratulations to Ms Arashdeep Kaur, Victoria University 2025 recipient of the Rowe Scientific Foundation Chemistry Scholarship.

Image_30_8891eb00666c47d2951022c945e983ea

Ms Arashdeep Kaur
In Arashdeep's own words:
"My love for science began in Year 9, when I first learned about DNA and genes. I was fascinated by the idea that such tiny molecules hold the blueprint of life. That lesson sparked a lasting curiosity about how our bodies work at the genetic and molecular level. Ever since, I’ve been passionate about exploring the science behind human health and disease.

Now studying a science degree majoring in biotechnology, I’m especially interested in how genetic research and molecular tools can be used to improve diagnostics, develop treatments, and advance personalised medicine. I hope to contribute to research that has real-world impact, particularly for communities with limited access to healthcare innovations.

The Rowe Scientific Scholarship has made a big difference in my academic journey. It has reduced financial pressure and allowed me to focus more fully on my studies and hands-on lab experience. I’m deeply grateful to the Rowe Scientific Foundation for their generosity and belief in the next generation of scientists.

This support encourages me to keep working hard, stay curious, and strive to make a meaningful contribution through science".

UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA ROWE SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION VACATION AWARDS
Congratulations to Mr Aaron Kavalsky and Mr Evan James, the 2024 recipients of Rowe Scientific Foundation Vacation Scholarship, in the School of Molecular Sciences at University of Western Australia.

Mr Aaron Kavalsky

In Aaron's own words:
The Role of Redox Poise in the Onset of Bud Dormancy in Grapevine

"Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a woody, fruit-bearing species and is the most economically important fruit crop worldwide. Irregular and patchy budburst of grapevines, mainly in regions with mild winters, such as South-west WA, often creates significant economic and viticultural problems. The state of dormancy forms an important part of the annual cycle of deciduous woody plants in temperate climates. Understanding the ecophysiology of dormancy transitions is important for managing the effects of climate change in forest and crop systems.

In prior work, the Considine lab has established a timeline of the onset of bud dormancy in key grapevine varieties and physiological methods to assess dormancy. Over the summer break, I was able to contribute to this body of work by running a project on bud dormancy in Cabernet Sauvignon grapevine from Margaret River in the South-west. We used fresh cuttings for planting and conducting a growth assay with half assigned a chemical (cyanamide) treatment to induce bud burst. Frozen buds were used for assessing moisture content and redox (ascorbate) status. The sampled buds had a higher moisture content than prior work from the Considine lab and sheds light on the rapid physiological changes during late summer. Although the bud burst assay did not reach 50%, we saw clear evidence of the stimulatory effect of cyanamide on bud burst. Higher node ranks and thicker canes had an increased probability of bud burst and strong growth. The middle of the cane had the highest levels of total ascorbate and a moisture content of 67%. The redox status was minimised in the basal node conveying greater depth of dormancy. We also observed a positive correlation between moisture content and redox status.

Through practical experience, I learned about grapevine anatomy and growth stages, and learned how to design, plan, collect data, and troubleshoot a long-term experiment. Undertaking this project provided invaluable insight into the life of a researcher and validated my interest in plant biochemistry research giving me the confidence to embark on my Honours project in 2025. I am very grateful to Michael Considine of the UWA School of Molecular Sciences and his team for their support and expertise".

Sincerely,
Aaron Kavalsky

Mr Evan James

In Evan's own words:

"Throughout my undergraduate degree in biochemistry, I found the teaching labs quite overwhelming and fast-paced, which made me somewhat nervous stepping into the lab.

However, I knew that I wanted to give research a go, and in order for that I would need to become familiar and more comfortable with the lab environment.

Completing a six-week research project under the supervision of Prof. Harvey Millar and Dr. Ryan Coates at UWA made possible by the Rowe Vacation Scholarship did exactly this for me.

Not only was I able to start my honours degree with confidence in the lab surrounded by familiar faces, but I was able to learn important skills during the workflow of a research project, greatly benefitting my honours year.

Thank you again to the Rowe Scientific Foundation for making this possible and I would urge anyone who is interested in pursuing research after their degree to apply for a Rowe scholarship!"

Sincerely,
Evan James

UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG ROWE SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION CHEMISTRY SCHOLARSHIP 2025
Congratulations to Mr Kieren Seeto, who has been awarded the Rowe Scientific Foundation Chemistry Scholarship.

Image_33_30de2a5e713e4f1b9c2a2c9c2eead665

Mr Kieren Seeto

In Kieren's own words:
"Chemistry was introduced to me when I was simply curious about ingredient labels. My questions about what things were made of spiralled into questions of why they are used and how components combine.

My focus is related to how synthetic and analytical chemistry is involved in product research and development as well as quality control and assurance.

I am recently most interested in how we may refine current and emerging chemical processes for the benefit of society and the environment, particularly in the field of catalysis. By undertaking a research project involving transition metal catalysis next semester, I hope to gain a better understanding of various catalyst structures.

Thank you to the Rowe Scientific Foundation for this scholarship opportunity".
